“Lightweight design is in itself interdisciplinary and complex, making it interesting for that reason alone,” enthuses Dr. Kai Winkelmann, director of the research and development department at Forster System-Montage-Technik GmbH (SMT). SMT is a transport industry supplier in Lusatia and a member of the Mrose technical trade company association. With its lightweight innovations, the company also contributes to saving mass in the transport sector. When it comes to the further development of its products, the company profits from the location of Brandenburg, as Dr. Kai Winkelmann explains in the video.
SMT researches lighter parts and more efficient technologies for the integration of more complex parts. In its research, the company reaps particular benefits from cooperating with scientific institutions in Brandenburg. In the Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Lightweight Building Materials Panta Rhei at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenburg (BTU), SMT tests new technologies that the company wishes to develop further.
The company is also pleased to work with the “Lightweight construction with structured materials” (LsW) group at the BTU. The cooperation means that SMT can test its products more efficiently along the entire product development chain. Just like other companies in the industry, SMT uses the excellent conditions in Brandenburg to further advance lightweight design as a key technology for the future.
